Driveway Questions Answered
What areas do you cover?
We cover Eastbourne and the surrounding area, including Meads, Old Town, Hampden Park, Langney, Willingdon, Sovereign Harbour, Polegate and nearby villages across BN20 to BN23.
What driveway services do you offer?
We install block paving, resin bound and tarmac driveways. We also offer edging, drainage, dropped kerb advice and removal of old driveways.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes. Call us free on 0800 9596 473 to arrange a no-obligation site visit and written quote.
Which driveway surface is best for me?
It depends on your budget, the look you want, drainage and how the drive will be used. Block paving is flexible and easy to repair, resin bound is smooth and permeable, and tarmac is hard-wearing and cost-effective. We’ll talk you through the options when we visit.
How much does a new driveway cost?
The cost depends on the size, the surface you choose, the ground conditions, the drainage needed and access to your property. Every job is different, so we give you a fixed written quote after a free site survey rather than a rough guess.
Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?
Not if the surface is permeable, or if the water drains onto a lawn or border within your property. Planning permission is usually needed when more than 5m² of front garden is covered with a non-permeable surface that drains onto the road. We’ll advise you on this during the survey.
Can you help with a dropped kerb?
In East Sussex, dropped kerbs need approval from East Sussex County Council. We can explain the process and plan your driveway around the approved crossover.
How long does a driveway installation take?
Most driveways take between two and seven working days, depending on the size, the surface and how much groundwork is needed. We’ll give you a timescale with your quote.
Will you remove my old driveway?
Yes. We dig out and take away the old surface and any waste, then prepare a new sub-base so your driveway lasts.
Why is the sub-base so important?
The sub-base carries the weight of your vehicles. If it is too shallow or not compacted properly, the driveway will sink, rut or crack. We dig to the correct depth and compact each layer properly, which matters on Eastbourne’s mix of chalk and clay ground.
Do you deal with drainage?
Yes. We design the falls and fit channel drains, soakaways or permeable surfaces as needed, so water drains away from your home and you stay within the planning rules.
Do I need to be at home while the work is done?
You don’t have to be, but it helps if you are there at the start to agree the final details. We’ll need access to an outside tap and to where the materials are delivered.
Can I still park while the work is going on?
You won’t be able to park on the driveway while it is being dug out and laid. We’ll let you know which days it will be out of use so you can plan around them.
Does a new driveway add value to my home?
A well-built driveway improves kerb appeal and gives you off-street parking. Both appeal to buyers and can help your property sell.
How do I maintain my new driveway?
Brush it regularly, deal with oil spills quickly and pressure wash it gently now and then. We’ll give you aftercare advice for your chosen surface when the job is finished.
Do you work in conservation areas?
Yes. Parts of Eastbourne, such as Meads and Old Town, are conservation areas. We can suggest materials that suit the character of the street and work alongside any planning requirements.
